I want to go to that pond
and feed the Koi that swim about
without an escape route
and without knowing of escape.
I want to throw stale bread
and worms from underneath
the surrounding rocks.
I want to watch as the Koi
reach the sky in my net
and gasp for air.
Most of all, I want you, Grandma.
I want that strong woman
who fed me sandwiches and
combed my hair.
I want to know you'll be okay
and this momentary lapse is
a stranger in your body.
